My name is Dr. Jason Holland, and I’m a Licensed Clinical Psychologist in Tennessee (#3590) that offers online mental health services in Tennessee, including online psychotherapy services and online couples therapy over Skype.

For the past 15 years, I have worked as a therapist, clinical supervisor, and researcher in a number of settings and have particular expertise working with adults & couples in the midst of difficult transitions, whether brought on by bereavement, trauma, illness, injury, retirement, aging, or other life circumstance.  

As a licensed psychologist in Tennessee, I provide mental health services in Tennessee and accept clients that reside within the State. However, I will soon be offering Life Coaching Services to clients worldwide.

Approach to Psychotherapy

I believe strongly in our ability to be resilient and heal ourselves from the wounds of the past.

And as a therapist, I view my role as a supportive guide, as people bravely confront difficult memories and find creative ways to move forward, even in the midst of heartache and pain.  

My approach to therapy is also guided by the belief that we each construct our own unique reality. We’re like historians, constantly rewriting our personal histories, as we encounter new experiences and interpret (and reinterpret) life events.

Extreme life circumstances, like loss or trauma, can sometimes shatter fundamental beliefs we have about ourselves, others, and the world around us. And when this happens, I work with clients to explore new understandings of difficult life events and co-construct a life story that allows for a more purposeful and hopeful future.

Because it’s difficult to leave a place until you’ve arrived there first, this exploration may involve revisiting painful memories and re-experiencing difficult emotions, as we collaboratively search for positive ways of moving forward in the aftermath of crisis, trauma, or loss.

This work, of course, requires a high degree of trust, so above all else, my hope is to develop positive relationships with clients and create a safe place for people to talk about what concerns them most.  

Insurance Accepted

If your health insurance offers mental health benefits and allows for you to be seen by an out-of-network provider, I can provide online therapy covered by insurance. 

To request online therapy covered by insurance, simply enter your insurance information when completing the online intake questionnaire (sent after scheduling an intake appointment). My fees are $150 for a 90-minute intake session and $89 for 45-minute therapy sessions.

Online Treatment for Depression and Anxiety

I provide online treatment for depression and anxiety that targets the unhelpful thoughts that drive negative feelings.

Grief and Bereavement Therapy

As a grief therapist, I focus on both the practical aspects of loss (e.g., shifting family roles, loneliness, financial strain) as well as the emotional tasks of grieving. In grief and bereavement therapy, these emotional tasks could involve finding ways to make sense of what happened or resolving some ‘unfinished business’ in the relationship.

Evidence Based Treatment for PTSD

I offer evidence based treatment for PTSD that addresses a range of responses people have to trauma, such as nightmares, intrusive thoughts, and avoidance. As a trauma therapist, I believe it’s important to examine difficult thoughts and emotions that surround the traumatic event, while also acknowledging personal strengths and our ability to grow from difficult life circumstances.

Coping Skills Therapy for Managing Chronic and Terminal Illness

For those affected by chronic or terminal illness, I offer online psychotherapy services (i.e., therapy over Skype-like interface) that focuses on managing pain, maintaining a sense of purpose and dignity, and addressing spiritual concerns.

Caregiver Depression Treatment

I provide caregiver depression treatment to individuals overwhelmed and overburdened by caregiving responsibilities. Caregiver depression treatment often focuses on improving self-care, dealing with anticipatory grief, getting support, and (in the case of dementia caregiving) developing a plan to manage problem behaviors (e.g., wandering or irritability).    

Mindfulness Psychotherapy

In today’s world, it can be difficult to slow down and savor experience without quickly judging or labeling it in some way. Because meaningful change often requires that we find flexible, new ways of looking at the same set of circumstances, I find mindfulness practices to often be a useful augment to treatment.

Online Couples Counseling

When couples get locked in a stale pattern of interaction, it can be hard to see a positive way of moving forward. In online couples counseling, I work with couples to identify these patterns, label them, and experiment with alternate ways of interacting.
